This beautiful mid 19th century Buddha is from Burma and is carved from wood and pasted with layers of gold leaf pieces at buying times. The surface decoration is inlaid with different colors of glass to mimic the effect of jewels of the highest and best stone quality. The reclining Buddha is symbolic of the end of the secular life of the Buddha who enters nirvana very peacefully which is why in images of the reclining Buddha the expression of the Buddha is most serene and peaceful.
